The Great South West Edge of Western Australia is home to 13 endemic species of birds including five cockatoos and parrots, the infamous Noisy Scrub-bird and the stunningly beautiful Red-eared Firetail, as well as one of the world's rarest birds, the Western Ground-parrot.

The Western Ground-parrot has declined rapidly in the past 20 years, with only about 110 birds surviving in the wild. The largest population can be found in the Cape Arid National Park.
The national park is an important park for the conservation of birds in Western Australia, with more than 160 species including a number of listed as restricted or threatened.
Birding South West designs and conducts specialist birdwatching tours in the Great South West Edge National Landscape, ranging from half-day tempters right through to fully accommodated 16-day expeditions, as well as personalised tours for birders looking for particular species or specific locations.

The tours run year round, but the best weather and viewing opportunities are from September to December. From June to August it may be possible to include a pelagic trip out into the Indian Ocean from Perth or the Southern Ocean from Albany. ( source: media.australia)
